Drive-In. Move Up!Company Summary Sonic dates back to 1953, when Troy N Smith, a Shawnee, Oklahoma, entrepreneur, opened Top Hat Drive-In. The restaurant became Sonic America s Drive-In. Soon it became known for its Service at the Speed of Sound. In 1967, D.L. Rogers Corp. was formed by Don L. Rogers in Eureka, Kansas.
